Switzerland could introduce EU immigrant quotas

altReports in Switzerland suggest that the country’s government is currently considering placing a temporary limit on the number of EU immigrants allowed to enter the country each year.

Although Switzerland enjoys close ties with the EU, and shares a number of bilateral agreements with the Union, it is not actually a member state, and in 1999 signed an agreement with Brussels that allows it to invoke a clause limiting immigration from the EU if the influx of EU citizens exceeds a certain number.

Inter-cultural skills "very important" for working in India, finds British Council

altNew research by the British Council in partnership with Booz Allen Hamilton and Ipsos Public Affairs has found 60% of organisations in India think inter-cultural skills are “very important”.

Employers also valued intercultural skills as highly as formal qualifications in the workplace.

Chinese businesses and tourism welcomed by UK Border Agency

altUnited Kingdom is open for business and tourism and China is one of the UK's priority markets, according to the UK Border Agency (UKBA).

In a statement on its website, the agency said, “We have seen continual growth in visitor numbers from China, with the vast majority of those who apply not only getting a visa, but speaking highly of the service they receive when they do.”

Inflation survey for expat goods and services

altHR consulting, data and technology firm AIRINC conducted a pricing survey of a market basket of expatriate goods and services in 109 countries in 2012 to measure inflation in major regions of the world.

In the majority of the countries AIRINC covered, about 60% globally, experienced inflation of less than 5% during 2012.

Lund University, Scandinavia’s largest education and research institute and one of Europe’s most prestigious universities, has seen a 15% increase in UK applicants.
